Essential knowledge to prevent fires and protect your family
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries annually.
Develop a family fire escape plan and practice it at least twice a year. Ensure everyone knows two ways out of every room.
Keep fire extinguishers in key areas like the kitchen and garage. Learn the PASS technique: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
Don't overload electrical outlets. Replace frayed cords and avoid running cords under rugs. Unplug appliances when not in use.
Never leave cooking unattended. Keep flammable items away from the stove. Turn pot handles inward to prevent accidental spills.
Keep matches and lighters out of children's reach. Teach children that fire is a tool, not a toy. Install stove knob covers.
